From the Play: Triffina and the Queens of Conomor, Act I, Scene 1

Character:  Dame Destiny, the Primordial Orchestrator of Fate, appearing as an Old Crone.

Setting:  A clearing in the woods beyond Castle Domnonée in Brittany, France, 540 CE.

Background:  After King Conomor of Cornwall begins his conquest of Brittany, Dame Destiny enlists the Four Elements to carry a message of hope to the Breton People.

DAME DESTINY

Hear me, Elements of Fire and Air, Earth and Water!  You who are the soul and breath, the flesh and blood of Brittany! Carry my will on sunlit rays and whipping winds, across high hills and rushing rivers to all true-born inhabitants of these lands so that they may hope! A sinister stranger has come in conquest to these shores, seeking a title to which he has no right. Do not despair! For I hold sovereignty in the palm of my hand and read rightly each furrowed path that I, myself, have traced there. I swear to you, Embattled Bretons, by your forfeit fields, as I once blessed this noble in his native Cornwall so shall I break this usurper in your stolen Domnonée!  Watch in wonder of my work and see how I will lead this greed-driven Conomor to choose the path of his own demise!  Ruination, his destination!  Ruination, not damnation!
