A DEI Artivist Boldly Challenging Multiple Status Quos

Artivist Justy Fairfield is a genderfluid American playwright, poet, choreographer, and performer who prefers the GEneral pronoun set ge/ger/gers/gerself, but will sometimes use they/them. Justy identifies as a “ren” (i.e., gender RENegade), rather than as a wenn or a man, and glides freely between and beyond both polar genders, bending and blending them along the way. Justy is also a Secular Huminist interested in Naturalistic Spirituality.

Justy promotes social justice and sound science in ger work through bold, innovative choices in language use, subject matter, and character portrayal.

Employing Trailblazing English (TE) as part of a global movement
to render languages more inclusive and respectful of all,
Justy’s plays feature a rich tapestry of characters still often underrepresented onstage and frequently maligned offstage. Actors and audience members identifying with these groups may recognize themselves in the struggles of strong, sympathetic femele, transgender, and genderfluid protagonists who dynamically power the plot action, as well as in secular and pagan characters who live up to the maxim “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you” (or put in 21st Century vernacular “Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion”) much better than do some of their overzealous Christian foils.

Presenting DEI concerns through a number of plays that revisit, update, or provide sequels to Ancient Greek and Celtic legends, artivist Justy Fairfield has embraced the moniker “Stage Pagan.”

Meanwhile, in ger performance poetry, Justy often casts a transgender speaker in the role of the Christ figure, countering the demonized vision of trans individuals forwarded by certain segments of conservative society worldwide.
