Meet Justy DeForest, Cultural & Linguistic Visionary

Giving Voice to a Vision

Hi, I’m Justy DeForest (ge/gem/geir), a progressive, genderfluid, Trailblazing English advocating poet/playwright, choreographer, performer, artivist and educator. I’ve based several of my dramas on Ancient Greek and Celtic myths, reframing their legendary characters and challenges in order to explore how we can be our best selves culturally and linguistically at this pivotal point in the 21st Century.

Justy earned the moniker “Stage Pagan” while creating mythic Celtic performance pieces for Philadelphia area troupes.

Giving Voice to Diversity

Having an anachronistic vibe, my plays are peopled by an array of characters, mythic and modern, representing groups still needing more visibility onstage and often maligned offstage. I hope actors and audiences alike will recognize themselves in the strong femele, egalitarian male, self-aware gender-variant, and spiritually diverse protagonists who dynamically power the action of the plots with dignity, courage, and conviction. I believe celebrating the rich tapestry of humin identity and experience makes for a stronger society, not a weaker one. This vision steers my personal and artistic endeavors.

Giving Voice to Boldness

My plays are not Cheknovian style drawing room dramas where as much is left unsaid as said. Rather, they are high-stake verbal conflicts played out in the public square by larger-than-life characters. For thespians who like this bold, direct “Greek Approach” to drama, I make several of my monologues and scenes available on this website free of charge for individuals up for using new works in acting classes or as audition pieces. Go to the New Monologues & Scenes with Archetypal Themes Page on the menu or click on the link below to see the list of performance pieces currently available on this website. https://stagepagan.com/
